Quilt for Theodore

It's been snowing here in Boston so I thought it was time to do a photoshoot. This quilt for Theo has been finished for a while. The blue and red fabrics are from M&L and I paired them with a thick beige sashing and red binding. My son chose the back fabric which he was really excited about. I made it twin size so hopefully he can take it to college one day. xx

Red + Blue Patchwork Quilt

I've been using the summer break to finish some projects that I'd started. Last week I finished this patchwork quilt. So fun! This one is for a cousin of mine who is a talented artist. Aaron carves pieces in jade / pounamu and gave me a lovely jade necklace when I was visiting last year. I wanted to make him and his family something and this lap quilt is what I came up with. Shibori Dyed Quilt Top

Happy 4th of July! I have been humming and harring about this quilt top and finally decided to dye it. I wanted to take some focus off the orange (think I've accompolished that haha!) I used a shibori dyeing method to dye a corner of it. The process was messy but fun. 

I am surprised at how well the quilt top handled being washed and dyed. One of the benefits of making something out of scraps is that you can experiment like this and see what happens. Can't wait to show you the pieced back..

Quick Question

Hey there! How's your summer going? 

My husband recently finished building us a cabin. He was out in his studio a lot putting it together so I decided to use my evenings making this quilt top using fabric I had on hand. Is this the ugliest quilt top ever? I'm torn over whether to finish it or fold it up and forget it ever happened. Sigh.

I was in California this weekend and stopped into my favorite fabric store to get some supplies. Ahhhh, so much fun! 

These are for the twin quilt I plan to make for my almost 3 year old. He loves the airplanes.

Move to Boston!

Hey! It's been a while but we've made our cross country move from California back to Boston. I'm so happy to be here, especially at this gorgeous time of year!

I'm working on this scrappy quilt and loving the straight line quilting. It's inspired by Modern Handmade's quilt found here.

Brick Road Quilt

 I finished Brick Road a few weeks ago and went to Newport Beach this weekend to photograph it. It was a gorgeous, sunny day.

 After I got home from New Zealand last November, I was pretty homesick and my husband suggested I make something for my middle brother. In case he got engaged.

And he did! So now I just need to label this and send it off to him and his sweetheart. Yay!

Credits

Design by me (long strips of solids with a dash of pattern / thick cream border / scrappy binding). The backing is a large floral pink and yellow fabric I found at M&L.

Scrappy Strip Project

This is my latest quilting project. It's a series of scrappy strips in long lines. I was inspired by Modern Handcrafts Read Between the Lines quilt. 

At present I think it will be a baby quilt but we'll see where this goes.

Brick Road Quilt coming along ...

So I finished quilting Brick Road. It was a blast to sew all those straight lines. I definitely enjoyed the quilting on this project. 

I've made a cute scrappy binding for it which has been sitting there for a while. Honestly, I started another quilt. Shhhhhh. I'm normally really good at finishing projects before starting new ones but this time was different.

Here's a closeup. So, lots going on here and I don't have much time on my hands but I plan to pop in and show you the other quilt soon. Thanks for reading.

Brick Road Quilt Progress!

 I'm quilting this quilt now and calling it "Brick Road". So far I've really enjoyed  this project and love the vintagey floral fabric I found for the back. 

I'm quilting it in straight lines to follow the bricks. Love!

Rethinking This Quilt

I'm rethinking this quilt actually. The colors are out of my usual range and I've been pondering what will look good. At the moment I'm excited about this design of solid squares with a pop of pattern in the corner. 

Scrappy HST Quilt Finished! (Updated Pics)

I've finished this quilt and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I love the random blue blocks and the scrappy binding. 

I employed a number of new techniques with this quilt. Spray basting was one and I will never go back to pins. Also, I used a walking foot for quilting it and that worked well too. Here are a couple of pics of the quilt which I photographed in NZ before giving to the happy couple.

Scrappy Binding

I have a scrappy binding ready to be put on Wilfred and Hilda's quilt. Ahhhhh it's almost done. I'm going to New Zealand with my family to attend their wedding and I can't wait.

Here is the completed quilt top. I'm delighted with how it turned out. I ended up removing the grey solid and sticking with blue. Then I made a 2 inch blue border.
